From Shadow to Spotlight
From Grief to Understanding
Grief has a way of stripping everything down to the truth. When I arrived in St. Petersburg, I thought I was simply starting over — new city, new chapter, new work. But what I was really doing was learning how to live again.
At first, I tried to do what I’d always done: stay busy, stay visible, stay productive. But grief doesn’t respond to calendars or conference calls. It moves in waves — some days gentle, some days suffocating — forcing you to sit still long enough to face what you’ve been running from.
In that stillness, I began to see patterns, both personal and professional. I saw how often women — especially Black women — are expected to lead without a net. We carry entire systems on our backs, often celebrated publicly yet supported privately by no one. Our ideas travel faster than our names. Our impact gets mirrored, reworded, and recycled, but rarely credited.
For a while, that realization broke me open. Then it built me differently.
I stopped chasing inclusion in rooms that were never meant for me. Instead, I began creating spaces where authenticity, courage, and faith could coexist — not as talking points, but as the foundation of leadership. I pivoted from proving my worth to practicing it, from waiting to be invited to learning how to expand the table itself.
What began as grief slowly transformed into understanding: purpose doesn’t always emerge in applause. Sometimes, it’s born in the quiet — when you’re standing in the middle of loss and illness and decide to rise anyway.

From Understanding to Expansion: Collaboration as Liberation
When clarity came, it didn’t arrive as thunder — it came as a whisper: You don’t have to do this alone.
For years, I had equated strength with solitude. Like so many women in leadership, I had learned to thrive in the margins, to carry the load, to smile through exhaustion. But grief and true relationships taught me what success never could — that healing and growth are amplified through connection.
Little by little, I started to stretch — not just in what I was doing, but in who I was becoming. I reached out to women I’d admired from a distance but never actually called. I began sharing the questions I used to keep tucked away, opening up to trusted friends and colleagues. And as we talked, prayed, and dreamed together, something sacred began to shift — I realized that God was using those connections to remind me I was never meant to build alone. What started as conversation became community. What began as healing became hope. That’s where collaboration became liberation.
It wasn’t about networking or strategy sessions; it was about soul work — the kind that happens when women or true male allys speak truth, hold space for each other, and dare to imagine what’s next. We stopped waiting for validation and began offering affirmation. We stopped chasing inclusion and started designing belonging.
And from those circles of honesty and shared vision came the heartbeat of my next chapter in life’s journey— From Shadow to Spotlight: Moving from the Invisible to Visible— a podcast born from the belief that visibility is more powerful when it’s collective. It’s not just about being seen; it’s about seeing each other.
Because liberation doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when voices rise together — each one distinct, yet part of a greater harmony.

Stepping Into the Light
Every story has a turning point — that moment when survival gives way to vision. For me, that moment came when I realized that light isn’t something we wait for; it’s something we become.
Moving to St. Petersburg taught me that reinvention doesn’t erase what came before — it refines it. Every loss, every lesson, every lonely beginning has prepared me to stand here now, not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone who has finally made peace with becoming.
The mic I carry isn’t just equipment — it’s a symbol of that transformation. It represents every woman who’s ever whispered wisdom in quiet rooms, every leader who’s ever wondered if her story still matters, and every soul who’s ever dared to start again.
That’s why I created From Shadow to Spotlight — a podcast for the courageous, the curious, and the quietly powerful. It’s a space for women whose brilliance has too often been hidden behind titles, expectations, and doubt. Together, we’ll share stories of resilience, purpose, and faith — proof that the light we seek is already within us.
So here’s my invitation to you…
Join me as we step out of the shadows, into the light, and tell the stories that were never meant to stay silent.
Because the world doesn’t need perfect leaders. It needs present ones — grounded, grateful, and unafraid to
